What’s New at the Library?

Meet our new Board Member, Audrey Miller!

As lifelong resident of Hamilton, I believe I bring a deep connection to the community. After dedicating 32 years to teaching at Hamilton Central School, I retired but still have a passion for education and community service. As a proud mother of two sons, I have always been committed to fostering growth, learning, and well-being in my family and beyond. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, reading, and collecting antiques. It is a great honor to join the library board. I am eager to give back to the community that has given me so much. I believe my lifelong love of learning and dedication to Hamilton will make me an asset to the library's mission.

From the Director

For a month with 31 days, July really was in a hurry to get somewhere, and with it, our Summer Reading Program (SRP). From ice cream sundaes to pizza parties and everything in between, it’s safe to say that this year’s program was a hit!

While some may have enjoyed the Utica Zoomobile, others the Didgeridoo Down Under, personally, I liked the beads the best. Folks that participated know what I’m talking about, but for the uninitiated, the more you read, the more beads you added to your necklace. The visual representation of reading in this way was impressive and expressive, simple, and best of all, pretty cheap! I hope we bring it back next year. Shoutout to staff member Natalie for, I think, running out of room on her necklace from reading too much. Seriously impressive stuff! As for who read the most on the patron side, we’re not quite finished crunching the numbers yet. But we do know that 122 people registered this year! Way to go!

Concerning the programming side of things, we hosted 33 programs, 24 of which were children’s programs and nine were geared towards adults. At those events, 780 of you showed up! Way to go on that too!

Thanks to all of you for participating in the program this year, and thanks to Events Coordinator Marie for putting the effort into making her first SRP successful and memorable. Of course, all programs (including this one) are sponsored by the Friends of the Library, so a big Thank You goes out to them as well. Thanks also to Stewart’s Shops for the ice cream at our kickoff party, Oliveri’s for the Pizza at our wrap-up event, and the Madison County Cornell Cooperative Extension for a fun program. If I forgot anyone else, I’ll be sure to include them in next month’s newsletter, promise.

As always, but especially last month, thank you for reading!
