From the Director
Did you know our library is a public entity run by a Board of Trustees? It’s true! While I serve as the Director of the Library, in a way, I have nine bosses that I answer to. They set the policies, approve all of our expenses, approve all new hires, and much more! They work with the Village of Hamilton (more of my bosses) to ensure the best quality customer service, programs, and collection for our patrons (my other bosses).
In addition to attending regular monthly meetings, our Trustees are required to serve on committees that meet throughout the year AND take two hours of training every year! As all of our Trustees are volunteers, this form of community service is much appreciated by not only the library staff, but our patrons. We wouldn’t be as successful at what we do without their support and dedication.
Being a Library Trustee can be a pretty thankless job, but not today! This year, a few of our Trustees moved on for various reasons, Kara Rusch, Rebecca Upton, and Tiffany Horn. Note: Tiffany Horn has served on the Board for more than her single five-year term, which makes her one of the longest-serving Board members since I arrived in 2018. Thanks, Tiffany, Rebecca, and Kara!
Last month also saw the final meeting of our outgoing Vice President, Lynne Kvinnesland, who has served her full five-year term. Thanks, Lynne!
As sad as it is to see people go, it is exciting to welcome new Board members into the mix. Meg Michaels, Emily Hutton-Hughes, Meg Rose, and Laura Caughlan have all agreed to step up and represent their community and library for the near future. With their support, we will continue to bring you the best library we can.
Thank you for reading and supporting your local library.
