Friends of the Library

We asked you, our community, to donate gently used purses and jewelry to this year's Pursapalooza fundraiser and you delivered. Well over 100 gently used purses, wallets, and evening bags were donated to the Friends for Pursapalooza along with an assortment of jewelry.

Michael and Jen Latreille graciously hosted the event at the Hamilton Inn, providing champagne and Hors d'oeuvres. Between ticket sales for the event, purchases made at the event, and the sale of raffle tickets for the four brand new purses, donated by Friends members, the money raised more than exceeded expectations.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shopped, and helped out with the event. We couldn’t have pulled it off without you, and we enjoyed sharing a fun-filled afternoon with you!

All the money raised by Pursapalooza supports the Hamilton Public Library.

From the Director

It’s that time of year again!

I feel like I always start the column with that phrase, but it’s true! I can’t help it if everything around here feels like an annual event, but who are we to avoid seasonal fun? Imagine a Hamilton Public Library that didn’t hang the bunting in May, put out tax forms in January, or decorate in March with those three-foot tall stuffed human/bunny hybrids…

What I’m trying to say is we have officially entered ice skate season! Stop by the library any time to see if we have skates in your size, free of charge. All you need is your library card! We have over 80 pairs available in a variety of sizes and styles. The skates are not reservable and are available on a first come, first serve basis. All of our skates circulate for one week.

Our collection of skates is sharpened as needed, a service paid for by the Friends of the Library. If you have reason to believe that the skates you checked out are too dull, please let a member of the staff know. We will have them sharpened as soon as possible.

So now that you have access to skates, and Lake Moraine hasn’t yet frozen over, where can you go to use these skates? While it’s too early for the municipal rink in our parking lot to open up, they have assured me that they will be putting it up soon. In the meantime, there is free Open Skating at Colgate every Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Class of 1965 Arena, Riggs Rink. Since ice skates are not provided at Open Skating, it would make sense to see what we have before you go!

Thank you for reading, and stay warm out there!

Highlights from last month

Between all of our regular crafts and programs at the library in November we also had a fall-themed photo booth, a booth at the HUB for Third Fall Friday and had the first meeting of our new Pokémon Club!
