From the Director
Director’s Report:
We have officially expanded our Library of Things to include many more, well, things! These things will give you the tools and opportunities to enrich your experiences outdoors in all seasons or help you finish a crafting project. Or they’ll just help you pass the time playing video games!
With the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce’s 5K Grant, we were able to fund an expansion to our outdoor recreation equipment collection. In addition to ice skates (that we already loaned), you can now check out snowshoes for every member of your family, hiking poles, binoculars, telescopes, tents, hammocks, freeweights, and more! Not into outdoorsy things? How about Fiber Arts? We have a new collection of things like sewing machines, crochet hooks, fabric scissors, blocking mats, and more! While it’s too early to announce a partnership regarding that collection, rest assured that it was with another local community nonprofit. More on that in a future column!
A patron also recently donated a Nintendo Switch that we have set up to loan out to patrons, and if you’re feeling a little more nostalgic, you can check out classic consoles like the Super Nintendo or Atari Classic, each loaded with dozens of games on them already.
There’s always so many ways that visiting the library can make your life better, so stop on down and see what we might have to interest you or someone in your life.
Oh right! I also want to tell you about The Librarians! To be clear, I’m referring to the documentary film titled ‘The Librarians,’ and not more than one of my colleagues. The Friends of the Library, Colgate Upstate Institute, Colgate University Libraries, the Waterville Public Library, and we at HPL have all teamed up to bring this award-winning documentary to the Hamilton Theater! In addition to the screening, we’re hosting a moderated panel featuring local librarians discussing America’s war on books, as explored in the film. Be sure to visit HamiltonTheater.net to reserve tickets soon, as there’s only one showing at 6 pm on Monday, February 9.
Finally, just one more announcement, we have a new Circulation Assistant! Please join me in welcoming Essence Truesdale, who joined our staff this month. Essence hails from Northwestern Pennsylvania and has only been in Hamilton a few months. She moved here recently with her husband and is happy to be a part of our team! She says she loved going to the library growing up and into adulthood and is grateful to take on this new role.
Thank you for reading and visiting the library. Stay warm out there!
