What’s new at the library?

Meet our newest staff member, Lisa!

A proud resident of Central New York, Lisa Marchitelli loves the rolling hills and change of seasons that are unique to our state. Aside from the area, Lisa has also resided in Arizona, where she still has family in Tucson and Sedona.

Lisa has two beautiful children and she is proud to call herself a mother, and lucky to have found love in her significant other. She has enjoyed being a PTA mom, soccer mom, football mom, career woman, and a good friend. As a former travel agent, one of Lisa’s passions is, you guessed it, traveling! Aside from many states in the contiguous United States, she’s also visited Hawaii and many islands in the Caribbean.

Her careers have shown her that no matter what you think you are capable of, there is always more to try. She has worked in management and service in restaurants and catering, been a teacher’s aide, a religion teacher, a travel agent, a cruise agent, an insurance agent, and now is joining the Hamilton Public Library staff as our Program and Events Coordinator! In this role she hopes to achieve her goal to get to more people, learn more about the local business community, and attend area events.

We are excited to welcome Lisa to our team and her unique experience will bring something new and exciting to our library and community. Stop by and say hello, or attend an event and introduce yourself.

Library Landscape

The beautiful aroma lingering in the air at the library entrance this month came from the pair of Korean spice viburnums (Viburnum carleseii) located on either side of the front doors. Their stunning pink blossoms caught the attention of many visitors and passers-by.

Alas, the rhododendron and holly shrubs planted out front have been suffering from deer damage over the years and need to be replaced. Elizabeth Douglas, our volunteer gardener and landscaper, is currently investigating deer-resistant native options. Feel free to send in suggestions, or stop by and chat with Elizabeth any morning you see her working outside!

From the Director

What a month May has been! First off, I want to take this opportunity to thank the Hamilton Community Chest for their generous contribution of $1,826 to support our book and electronic resources collection! This sum makes up for the cut we were forced to make to those collections to compensate for an increase in other essential resources, such as rising utility bills and an increase to minimum wage. Thanks to their generous support, those collections can continue to grow at a consistent rate. Please consider donating to their organization in the future, they support a number of local agencies that support our community directly. For more information, click here!

Speaking of a generous community and budgets, thank you so much for approving our tax levy increase last month! It is an honor to receive such overwhelming support from all of you, especially in a year when so many of you turned out to vote.

This month was busy for our staff as well, who attended a staff meeting on May 20th, and over half of us stayed to earn our CPR/First Aid certification. Now that we have an AED on the premises, it’s time we learned what to do with it. Thank you to Sarah Chesebro for offering this course to our staff so that we can better serve our patrons.

Oh, and speaking of staff, we hired two new staff members this month. Please join me in welcoming Lisa Marchitelli as our Program and Events Coordinator and William Gunthorpe as our Custodian. Even though it’s only been a few weeks, they are both excellent additions to our team.

Finally, coming up at the end of this month is the Summer Reading Program! Come visit us on the evening of June 28 as the Friends of the Library give away free ice cream sundaes to everyone who shows up! Kids that sign up for the program will also receive a free book - to keep! And that’s just the beginning. Read with us this summer to win fantastic prizes and attend some great programs.

Thank you for reading and subscribing to our newsletter.
