From the Director
This month we’re definitely not keeping things quiet at the library, and I mean that literally. Soon, patrons will be greeted not only by our friendly staff, but the sound of hammers, drills, saws, and footsteps coming from the ceiling, as we finally begin replacing our 25 year-old roof!
This project was funded mostly through a grant provided by the New York State Department of Library Development, and has been in the works since 2023. While the noise may be disturbing to some patrons that are looking for a quiet space to contemplate, it is temporary, and the upgrade is very much needed. Thank you so much in advance for your patience with us while construction is being completed.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, we’re also in the process of removing our old magazine shelves and putting up peg boards to house our new outdoor recreation equipment library. These heavy-duty boards will go up in three locations in our stacks, so you may see Village employees walking through and drilling into the walls a bit.
After all is said and done, we’ll finally be able to loan out all sorts of exciting equipment provided by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce in a space that doesn’t leak, and I think that’s pretty neat.
We’re always looking for ways to improve our community, and right now we’re doing that through improving the facilities. There’s a long list of projects to tackle around a building that partially dates back to the 1830s, and we’ve already been approved to replace an HVAC unit, install touch-free access points on main entrances, and more, probably sometime this year!
Thank you again in advance for your patience dealing with this temporary disturbance, and for reading!
