What’s new at the library?
Welcome Marie!
While this summer was a bittersweet end to Lisa Marchitelli’s tenure as our Events Coordinator (which we talked about last month), we do get to welcome Marie OrMoren as our newest staff member to head up programs moving forward.
Marie (she/they) is a long time lover of libraries and fostering supportive local communities, born in Hamilton and raised in Sherburne, where she frequented the public library. Eventually, she began working at the Sherburne Public Library (her very first job in high school) for six years and found her love of working in libraries there. She then went on to cultivate her passion for librarianship and community building through visiting every public library wherever she has lived and traveled - from Salem, MA to Charlotte, NC and beyond - during her college years. She graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in History, specializing in Women’s and LGBTQ+ history. This served as a launching-off point for library work in the future. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Library Sciences in the hopes of one day becoming the director of a public library and helping center libraries even more as hubs for community mutual aid and programming. Some fun facts about Marie: she was a professional baker for three years, has three cats at home named Sadie, Spatula, and Styx, and has played over 350 hours of Stardew Valley.
Please join us in welcoming Marie by stopping in and saying hello or attending a program. Or both!

From the Director
What a summer! I know, technically the season extends through the autumn equinox, but most people measure the season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Here at the Library, we measure the summer from the ‘Summer Reading Program (SRP) Kickoff Party’ to the ‘SRP Wrap-up Party.’ This year, it was a busy one!
We knew from the start that Lisa, our Program and Events Coordinator, was stepping down at the end of the season, so we made sure to send her off with a busy one - and what a busy one it was! The months of June, July, and August are usually busier than other months of the year in terms of circulation of materials, walk-ins, and program attendance. This was no exception!
In July alone, we recorded more than 3,000 people walking through our doors, which is the highest-recorded number of walk-ins since we’ve been counting in 2015! We also checked out over 4,000 items in July, which is the first time we’ve broken 4,000 since the pandemic.
Concerning the program counts, we hosted 40 SRP events for all different kinds of age groups and had over 800 attendees! From helping make decorations for the building in June to the Zoomobile and everything in between, thank you so much for showing up the last couple months! We also had 168 people officially sign up for the program, most of whom were kids who all received a free book to keep, compliments of the Friends of the Library. Oh! The Friends also support our entire programming budget (for the year), so a big thank you goes out to them. But the Friends aren’t the only generous community members. Thank you to Swank, McDonald’s, Stewart’s, Shole’s Boutique, Parry’s, Oliveri’s, Big Lots, and Enchanted Forest Water Safari for providing program support and prizes. Thanks also to Wendy Morgan of Hamilton that helped get our butterfly garden under control in the spring so that it could look good all summer long!
As always, thank you for reading and for supporting your local library.
