From the Director
Things sure have been busy around here! As always, the Summer Reading Program brings a lot of folks into the library, and this year was no exception. It may not surprise you to learn that we keep lots of statistics, which are helpful to give you some good old-fashioned quantitative data to back up claims of busy-ness. Let’s check out the numbers to see exactly how our Summer Reading Program affected the activity around here.
July 2025 saw the most checkouts in six years, and things seem to be continuing on an upward trajectory! Every year, folks seem to be checking out more and more items, and those items are changing. What I mean by that is that DVD checkouts have basically been down by 60% from six years ago, but video game checkouts are up by 400%. We have so many different item types that change with the times, and some that didn’t even exist a few years ago!
Unrelated with library activity is the increase in e-resource usage. Using the Libby app, patrons of ours check out an average of almost 1,300 books, audiobooks, and magazines on their portable devices every month, which is a number that’s continually increasing. Likewise, the number of patrons using Libby is only going up!
Aside from checkouts, the best proof we have of activity around here is counting heads. Every time someone comes in the building, our staff makes a hash mark on a sheet of paper. I know that’s old-fashioned, but it’s a system that works for us! According to those hash marks, we’ve seen a large increase in monthly patrons going back to 2017 when we started keeping these records, up from about 2,300 visitors to 3,000 - and that’s during July alone!
Thank you so much to our dedicated staff for creating a welcoming atmosphere and to our Events Coordinator Marie Moren for running a great Summer Reading Program. There’s still room to grow here, and we’re so glad you choose to spend your time with us and use our services.
Thank you for using our library and once again for reading!
